Year of the Pig Chinese Coin Pendant Necklace

As some of you already know, I am doing a series of necklaces in celebration of the various Chinese zodiac signs. Just a small disclaimer: I am not Chinese. The necklace designs are not particularly "Chinese." You don't have to be Chinese to enjoy these necklaces! Go to the Other Worlds section of this blog to see more from the series, or visit the Zodiac Necklaces section of my Etsy or ArtFire shop.

Year of the Pig Chinese Coin Pendant Necklace: $20 + shipping

Okay, can we just forget about "This little pig went to market" and the whole "Miss Piggy" thing? I know you never hear people pay someone a compliment by saying, "She's as scrupulous as a pig!" or "She's as generous as a pig!" But those are exactly the sort of qualities attributed to people born in the Chinese Year of the Pig.*

People born in the Year of the Pig are said to be scrupulous, gallant, sincere, sensuous, cultured, knowledgeable, generous, and honest. They can also be self-indulgent, hot-tempered, excessive, gullible, materialistic, naive, and . . . yes. . . pigheaded.

Be that as it may, this Year of the Pig Chinese Coin Pendant Necklace is the perfect gift for someone born in the Year of the Pig* -- or anyone who loves those Superbly Sensuous Swine.

The 19 inch necklace features a 3 and 1/2 inch long pendant created by connecting a glass millefiori multicolored flat round to a a Chinese zodiac coin with a pig on one side and the yin-yang symbol on the other. The coin is connected to a porcelain Chinese zodiac bead in the shape of an adorable little green pig. The pendant hangs from an antique gold plated pewter Tierra Cast bail.

The rest of the Year of the Pig necklace consists of a delightful array of 4mm earth tone glass seed beads, antique gold seed beads, and antique gold daisy spacers. An antique gold toggle clasp completes the piece.

* IMPORTANT NOTE: The Chinese New Year does not fall on a specific date, so it is essential to check the calendar to find the exact date on which each Pig Year actually begins. To determine your Chinese zodiac sign, consult  a book or web site such as the one at this link: http://www.annabelburton.com/chinese_years.html
